Scientists Just Found a Hidden Critical Point in Water Right Before It Freezes

An international team reported direct evidence for a liquid–liquid critical point in supercooled water.

They used infrared laser heating and ultrafast X-ray snapshots to observe transitions before ice formation.

The study narrows the critical-point region to about −63°C and 1000 atmospheres and tracked HDA, LDL and HDL behavior.

Researchers say locating the critical point will help further study of water's anomalous properties.
