100 driverless oilfield trucks planned for Permian Basin as US firms scale fleet by 2027

Atlas Energy Solutions plans to expand its Kodiak AI-powered autonomous trucking fleet in the Permian Basin from 28 trucks to 100 by mid-2027.

The trucks will haul fracking sand and support a second load-out point on Atlas’s Dune Express system.

The companies are targeting public-road testing or operations by early 2027, pending regulatory approvals.

The move could improve proppant logistics for shale operations and cut transport inefficiencies and labor needs.
