Ten Chinese firms including ByteDance reportedly get US clearance for AI chips they're not allowed to accept

The U.S. has reportedly cleared about ten Chinese companies, including ByteDance, Alibaba, Tencent, and JD.com, to buy Nvidia H200 AI chips.

Lenovo and Foxconn were also approved as distributors, according to Reuters.

No chips have shipped because Beijing is reportedly blocking the deals and tightening scrutiny of foreign tech dependence.

The dispute underscores how U.S. export controls and China’s industrial policy are shaping access to advanced AI chips and supply chains.
