Moderna gets $50 million to develop mRNA Ebola vaccine against Bundibugyo

CEPI awarded Moderna $50 million to develop an mRNA vaccine for the Bundibugyo Ebola strain.

The funder also backed other partners working on Ebola vaccine platforms, including groups linked to Merck, Johnson & Johnson, Oxford, the Serum Institute of India, and IAVI.

The outbreak has spread in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where delayed detection and conflict have slowed the response.

WHO says the outbreak has reached 1,041 cases and 241 deaths, underscoring the urgency of vaccine development.
