Warships to detect, track quiet submarines over long ranges with new high-performance sonar

Thales Canada won a contract via Lockheed Martin Canada to provide Sonar 2087 for the Royal Canadian Navy’s future River-class destroyers.

Sonar 2087 is a low-frequency towed array system built to detect and track quiet submarines at long range.

The upgrade will improve fleet capability, supportability, and Canada’s maritime and Arctic defense posture.

The system is already in use with allied navies, including the British Royal Navy and Australia’s Hunter-class program.
