China-made all-iron flow battery runs 6,000 cycles at 80 times cheaper than lithium

Chinese researchers reported an all-iron flow battery electrolyte that can run for more than 6,000 charge-discharge cycles without measurable capacity loss.

They say the design suppresses hydrogen-producing side reactions and could cut raw material costs to about 80 times less than lithium-based options.

The result is still at laboratory scale and has not yet been independently verified in a peer-reviewed publication.

If scaled and validated, it could become a much cheaper option for long-duration grid energy storage.
