Reddit will require "fishy" accounts to verify they are run by a human

Reddit will require verification for accounts showing automated or fishy behavior announced by CEO Steve Huffman in a Reddit post.

Human verification will be applied only when Reddit suspects an account is a bot, huffman said this will be rare and won’t apply to most users.

Unverified accounts may be restricted if they cannot prove they are run by a human restriction applied when verification fails.

Verification methods will include third-party tools that do not expose users’ Reddit identity or activity, huffman said tools won’t reveal true identity, username, or activity.

Passkeys are being explored as a verification method, huffman called them a good starting point but not proof of individuality.
