VMware takes first step toward Arm with ESX preview

VMware has released a first public preview of ESX for Arm-based servers, marking its initial step toward Arm support in virtualization.

The preview works on select HPE, Gigabyte, and Supermicro systems with Ampere or Nvidia Grace chips, but major features like vSAN and NSX are still missing.

Arm clusters must be managed separately from x86 environments through their own vCenter, and VMware has not announced a final release date.

VMware also updated Workstation and Fusion so they can connect to external Arm ESXi systems.
