Apple Responds to Lawsuit Over Fake Bitcoin Wallet Scam in App Store

Apple is facing a California federal lawsuit from three users who say a fake Bitcoin wallet app in the App Store helped steal about $1.8 million from them.

The complaint alleges a spoofed “Sparrow Wallet” app tricked users and that Apple failed to properly review or quickly remove the scam.

Apple says it took down the impersonator apps and terminated the associated developer accounts.

The case could test Apple’s App Store security claims and broader platform liability for fraudulent apps and investor losses.
