Any home's 320 million-year history could be tracked with a new online tool

Utrecht University launched Paleolatitude.org, an interactive tool that reconstructs the ancient latitude of any modern location over the past 320 million years.

The site combines tectonic plate reconstructions with paleomagnetic data to show how places moved through deep time.

Scientists say it will help separate climate signals from plate motion, improving studies of Earth’s past environments and fossil records.

The model could also shed light on mass extinctions, biodiversity resilience, and the ancient geography of places like Pangaea and the Tethys realm.
