As villages dry up and the desert advances, women in Morocco climb mountains to capture fog and turn it into drinking water

In southwestern Morocco, Aït Baâmrane communities use large mesh nets on mountain slopes to capture Atlantic fog and turn it into drinking water.

The project has replaced long trips to wells, improving daily access to water for households in the arid region.

It was recognized by the UN as a notable response to desertification and a low-cost climate adaptation model.

The system also reduces the burden on women and helps remove barriers to children’s education.
