Overseas-made Galaxy smartphones to support Suica; by the first half of 2027, visitors to Japan will be able to issue Suica right after arrival

JR East says overseas-sold Samsung Galaxy phones will support the Welcome Suica Mobile app in the first half of 2027.

Foreign visitors will be able to issue and use Suica soon after arriving in Japan, making transit setup easier.

Samsung Pay will also be added for top-ups and ticket purchases, expanding payment options for travelers.

The change should reduce friction for inbound tourists and broaden Suica use across more JR East services.
