The gigantic tunnel boring machine rewriting Madrid's underground picks up speed: it has already advanced more than 672 meters

The Mayrit tunnel boring machine has excavated more than 672 meters for the Madrid Metro Line 11 extension between Comillas and Conde de Casal.

The project has also removed tens of thousands of cubic meters of earth and installed hundreds of concrete rings to line the new tunnel.

The Community of Madrid expects this stretch to be finished in June and tunneling to be completed in 2027.

The line expansion is a major east-west mobility project that will create a new metropolitan corridor and reshape urban transport.
