Earthquake with maximum seismic intensity of 7 occurs in Kumamoto Prefecture, estimated magnitude M7.1

Around 4:27 p.m. on July 28, 2026, a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck near Uki City in Kumamoto Prefecture.

Shaking reached seismic intensity 7 in Uki City and Hikawa Town, and the Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami advisory.
