Google's AI Mode just got a lot smarter, and the search box is changing too

Google announced major upgrades to Search and AI Mode, led by Gemini 3.5 Flash as the default model.

The search box is getting smarter and more AI-powered, with smoother handoff from AI Overviews into AI Mode.

Google plans to roll out information agents and agentic booking this summer, pushing Search closer to an assistant that can act on tasks.

It also introduced free visual agentic coding features, expanding Google’s AI tools beyond search and into creation.
