Framework's new RTX 5070 12GB graphics module costs a whopping $1,199 — 72% more expensive than $699 8GB version, says pricing is beyond its control

Framework added a new RTX 5070 12GB graphics module for the Laptop 16, priced at $1,199 for pre-order.

That is $500 more than the 8GB version, even though the module uses the same core GPU specs.

Framework says the higher price is driven by GDDR7 memory costs and supplier pricing it cannot control.

The launch shows how tight supply and expensive memory are pushing up laptop GPU upgrade prices, even in modular systems.
