Samsung Messages is officially on the way out, pushing users to Google Messages

Samsung Messages will be discontinued in July 2026, according to an end-of-service notice on Samsung's US website.

Users are advised to move to Google Messages to maintain a consistent Android messaging experience.

The shutdown date can vary by device—Samsung's support page says users should check the app on each device for the exact cutoff.

Devices running Android 11 or older are not affected; after shutdown the app will only work for emergency numbers or emergency contacts.

Samsung has been gradually replacing Samsung Messages with Google Messages as the default on newer Galaxy devices; Galaxy S26 and newer will no longer have Samsung Messages on the Galaxy Store after July, and some pre-2022 Galaxy devices may see temporary RCS chat disruptions during the switch.
