Spain’s AVE link to Extremadura has moved forward again, but the Madrid-Oropesa stretch is still blocked by disputes over the route through Toledo.

The Cáceres-Badajoz high-speed segment is already in service, while the Castilla-La Mancha section remains stalled by competing plans, environmental concerns, and local opposition.

The Toledo routing choice is crucial because it will determine how soon Madrid gets a direct high-speed connection to Extremadura.

After 25 years of delays, the project continues to advance unevenly, keeping travel times long despite progress on part of the line.
