New US Army night vision goggles promise clearer sight in total darkness

The U.S. Army awarded development contracts to Elbit Systems of America, L3Harris Technologies, and Photonis Defense for its new BiNOD binocular night-vision goggle.

BiNOD is meant to replace the older AN/PVS-14 monocular system, which has a narrow field of view, weaker depth perception, and can cause eye strain.

The new helmet-mounted optics are designed to give soldiers clearer, less fatiguing vision in darkness and better situational awareness.

If successful, the program could set the next standard for infantry night-vision equipment and improve performance during night operations.
