One of Europe’s most feared airports faces a new problem. And it comes from the Atlantic

Portuguese officials say wind speeds at Madeira’s Cristiano Ronaldo Airport have risen abnormally since 2015, averaging about three knots.

The stronger winds are making already difficult operations at the airport even more challenging.

Authorities are investigating the cause while the MAWINDS monitoring system enters a pre-operational phase.

The new system is meant to better track turbulence and adverse winds before any regulatory changes are made.
