US Navy warships to be built by partner shipyards under HII’s new strategy

HII is shifting part of the future USS Philadelphia’s San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock build to partner shipyards, expanding distributed shipbuilding beyond destroyers.

Eight structural units are already in early production, with final integration to be completed at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Mississippi.

The approach was first used on the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer program and is designed to increase parallel work and outsourced production hours.

By extending the model to amphibious warships, HII aims to ease shipyard bottlenecks and help the Navy meet demand despite industrial capacity limits.
