OpenAI is killing the Sora app

OpenAI announced closure of the Sora app, sora account announced shutdown on X and said it will share details on retaining videos and removal timelines.

Sora account posted and later edited a shutdown announcement clarifying it pertains to the app initial post implied full shutdown, later edited to specify the Sora app.

Android app remained available on the Google Play Store after the shutdown announcement was released widely in November in select regions and remained on Google Play Store at time of reporting.

OpenAI and Disney deal ended a multi-year deal with Disney related to video generation assets the multi-year partnership that allowed use of Disney assets for Sora has ended following the Sora closure news.

Forbes reporting was spending around $15 million per day on video generation reported in November that OpenAI spent about $15 million per day on video generation.
