Pirate RPG game is secretly looting your SSD lifespan — new Windrose patch promises smoother sailing and addresses excessive disk writing

Windrose’s latest patch significantly reduces the game’s unusually heavy SSD write activity.

Testing found the game could write at extreme rates during play, sometimes reaching about 108 GB per hour.

The issue was traced to Windrose’s RocksDB-based save system.

Developer Kraken Express says version 0.10.0.4 cuts writes to around 10–16 MB/s, with much lower activity when idle.

The fix matters because the previous behavior could accelerate wear on older or weaker SSDs, especially QLC drives.
