WHO Declares Ebola Outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern

WHO declared the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

The decision followed positive lab samples, deaths among healthcare workers, and evidence of community transmission.

Confirmed cases in Kinshasa and Kampala raised fears of wider cross-border spread.

The declaration is meant to speed up international coordination, funding, and surveillance for a virus with no approved vaccine or treatment.
