Samsung Officially Discontinues LPDDR4 Memory, But Still Sees ~50x Profit Jump & Expects Memory Shortages To Get Worse In 2027

Samsung has officially ended LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X production, shifting capacity toward newer AI-focused memory such as LPDDR5, LPDDR5X, and HBM.

The company said demand signals for 2027 point to an even wider memory supply gap than in 2026.

Samsung’s memory business also posted a roughly 50x year-over-year profit jump in Q1 2026, underscoring the strength of AI-driven demand.

The shift highlights how AI datacenters are reshaping the market, tightening supply for older chips and favoring higher-margin products.
