Banned Drones And Routers In The US Will Still Get Critical Updates Until 2029

The FCC has extended security update support for certain Covered List devices, including foreign-made routers and drones, until Jan. 1, 2029.

The deadline had been set to end in 2027, but the agency cited special circumstances and the public interest in making the change.

Industry groups, including the Consumer Technology Association, had pushed for more time and clearer compliance guidance.

The extension lets consumers keep receiving critical software and firmware updates while manufacturers get extra time to adapt.
