Kioxia says its new QLC SSDs can match TLC performance at lower cost

Kioxia announced EG7, its first QLC SSD family, targeting lower-cost consumer storage for mainstream PCs.

The drives come in up to 2TB capacities and claim speeds as high as 7,000 MB/s read and 6,200 MB/s write.

EG7 uses a DRAM-less design with Host Memory Buffer, supports PCIe 4.0 and NVMe 2.0d, and is aimed at slim laptops, notebooks, and entry-level desktops.

The launch reflects growing demand for cheaper SSDs as AI pressure tightens supply and pushes storage prices higher.
