Meta invests in space solar to power US data centers

Meta is partnering with Overview Energy and Noon Energy to explore two new power options for data centers: space-based solar and ultra-long-duration storage.

The company reserved capacity for up to 1 GW of satellite solar power and plans a Noon Energy pilot delivering 25 MW/2.5 GWh by 2028.

If successful, the deals could help provide round-the-clock low-carbon electricity for energy-hungry AI infrastructure.

The partnerships also signal how big tech may secure new power sources as data center electricity demand keeps rising.
