AtLAST, the telescope that will reveal the ‘blurred’ galaxies of the Universe without using a drop of fossil fuels

Europe is leading development of AtLAST, a planned 50-meter submillimeter telescope in Chile’s Atacama Desert.

The telescope is designed to see through cosmic dust and survey huge areas of sky, potentially finding tens of millions of galaxies.

Its science goals include studying hidden star-forming regions, galaxy evolution, dark matter, and the origins of life.

AtLAST is also meant to run on renewable energy with a very low carbon footprint, showcasing greener astronomy.
