Scientists investigate existing drugs that may affect aging; nasal decongestant sprays may also be linked to longevity

A Northeastern University and Harvard team screened 6,442 existing drugs using aging-related gene networks to find candidates that may affect aging.

Aspirin and oxymetazoline, an ingredient in some nasal decongestant sprays, emerged as possible longevity-related compounds.

The study highlights drug repurposing as a faster path than new drug development for uncovering anti-aging interventions.

Published in Nature Aging, the work may help identify future candidates for lifespan extension and age-related therapies.
