New Compound Could Help Aging Muscles Repair Themselves

Kyushu University researchers report that lipoic acid trisulfide (LASSS) may reduce age-related damage to hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) and strengthen its binding to muscle stem cells.

In lab tests and mice, the compound helped protect HGF from oxidative and nitrative damage, preserving signals that drive muscle repair.

The finding could eventually lead to therapies for age-related muscle weakness and muscle loss, but it remains preliminary and has not been tested in humans yet.
