'Within 20 Km of 2 Million People': Major Volcano Is Hiding Two Active Magma Chambers

Using six years of satellite radar data, researchers detected two active magma chambers beneath Nicaragua’s Masaya volcano.

Masaya is highly active, with a persistent lava lake and frequent gas emissions, and it lies about 20 km from Managua.

The finding could improve forecasts of lava, explosive eruptions, and sulfur dioxide hazards for nearby residents and tourists.
