Multiple dead, several injured after chemical tank implodes at paper mill in Washington

A chemical tank ruptured at Nippon Dynawave Packaging’s paper mill in Longview, Washington, killing multiple people and injuring several others.

The storage tank contained white liquor, a caustic pulping chemical; firefighters, paramedics, and hazmat teams responded quickly to the mass-casualty scene.

Injured workers were taken to nearby hospitals, including PeaceHealth St. John Medical Center, while officials said there was no immediate public threat.

Washington state officials, including Gov. Bob Ferguson, and the Department of Ecology are involved as investigators assess the cause and environmental impact.
