World’s first AI-native particle collider will process 500,000 collisions per second

Brookhaven’s Electron-Ion Collider is being built as an AI-native machine, with machine learning embedded in both the accelerator and detector from the start.

Researchers are using AI to tune beam control, simulate detector designs, and reconstruct collision data in real time.

The system is expected to filter and process up to 500,000 events per second, a major challenge for particle physics infrastructure.

If successful, the project could reshape how future colliders are designed and operated, with startup planned for the mid-2030s.
