Scientists develop new lightbulb-inspired reactor that could transform industrial decarbonization

Researchers at the National University of Singapore have built a lightbulb-inspired filament-catalyst reactor.

A very hot filament activates methane, while a cooler catalyst-coated surface steers downstream reactions.

The approach could improve conversion efficiency and selectivity while cutting energy use and emissions in industrial chemistry.

It may support cleaner production of hydrogen, ammonia-derived products, carbon dioxide utilization, and valuable low-carbon chemicals.
