Bill requiring online games to be patched to work offline after server shutdowns or to offer refunds heads to a full session vote

California’s AB-1921 advanced out of a state Assembly appropriations committee and is headed for a full floor vote.

The bill would require game makers to provide an offline playable version, a continuity patch, or a full refund when an online game is shut down.

It also mandates 60 days’ advance notice before service termination.

Free games and subscription-based services are excluded from the proposal.
