22 Years Later, Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen Players Are Just Now Discovering a Double Battle Trick

A Reddit post revealed that pressing Start in Double Battles in Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen toggles HP to a numerical display.

FireRed and LeafGreen originally released on Game Boy Advance in 2004 and include mechanics added from later generations.

The remakes were released on Nintendo Switch in February for Pokemon's 30th anniversary and have drawn renewed attention.

Double Battles show only HP bars by default because screen space is limited when four Pokémon appear.

The numerical HP toggle was overlooked by many players due to the relative scarcity of Double Battles in the games.
