PS5 game player counts are finally coming — but it won't help you

PlayStation is beta testing a PS5 Welcome Hub Community Activity widget that will show weekly top games by player count and a Trending Now view.

The feature mirrors Steam-style popularity tracking, surfacing recent activity and making game performance more visible on the console.

Critics say it could encourage toxic comparison over player counts and push attention toward already popular titles.

That could make smaller games harder to discover and do little to improve PlayStation Store visibility for less-known releases.
