Sri Lanka discloses another missing payment, days after hackers stole $2.5M from its finance ministry

Sri Lanka said a $625,000 payment meant for the U.S. Postal Service had not reached its destination for weeks.

The disclosure comes after a separate $2.5 million diversion from the finance ministry was linked to hackers.

Officials are investigating whether the incidents are connected and whether other international payments were also tampered with.

The cases raise fresh concerns about cyber fraud and financial security during Sri Lanka’s economic recovery.
