Scientists Discover Plants “Scream” – We Just Couldn’t Hear Them Until Now

Researchers found that stressed plants emit faint ultrasonic clicks, especially when dehydrated or physically damaged.

The Cell study showed these sounds travel through the air and can be captured from species such as tomato and tobacco.

Machine learning was able to distinguish stress types and even identify different plant species from the clicks.

The discovery raises new questions about plant communication and could lead to a noninvasive way to detect crop stress.
