Google lets users change Google Account username, starting with U.S. users

Google announced on March 31, 2026 that users can change their Google Account username.

Starting March 31, 2026, all U.S. users can change the part of their address before @gmail.com.

The settings flow is Settings → Email → Google Account email → Change Google Account email to edit the username.

The '@gmail.com' suffix cannot be changed and the old address becomes an alternate email that still receives mail.

If a user reverts to the old username, they cannot create a new gmail.com address for 12 months and cannot delete the new address.
