Georgia Tech and MIT researchers analyzed millions of mosquito flight points from chamber tests with 3D infrared cameras.

They built a model showing female Aedes aegypti respond independently to the same human cues, especially visual contrast and carbon dioxide.

The mosquitoes do not appear to simply follow one another; each seems to track people on its own.

The findings offer the clearest look yet at mosquito flight rules around humans and could help improve traps and disease control.
