Hydrogen-powered aviation takes step forward as MTU validates fuel cell systems

MTU Aero Engines said it has successfully validated key hydrogen and air supply systems for its Flying Fuel Cell concept.

The company is now moving toward integrated demonstrator testing, a step closer to hydrogen-electric aircraft propulsion.

MTU plans to scale up to a 350-kilowatt stack and continue development with partners including Airbus under the HEROPS project.

The progress could help bring cleaner regional aircraft closer to practical testing, certification, and lower-emission flight.
