Earth May Be Seeding Venus With Life, According to New Research

JHUAPL and Sandia modeled whether Earth-ejected debris could survive the trip to Venus using the Venus Life Equation and bolide-atmosphere models.

They found that over geologic time, sizable amounts of material may have reached Venus’ clouds, and a small number of cells could arrive each year.

The result raises the possibility that Earth material, including organic compounds or microbes, could occasionally be delivered to Venus’ atmosphere.

The study adds a new angle to panspermia debates and to the search for life in Venus’ clouds.
