University of Florida scientists are developing next-generation orbital sensors to detect faint nuclear-related signals from space.

The project, backed by U.S. defense nuclear agencies, aims to spot concealed or low-yield nuclear tests and proliferation activity.

Researchers say space-based detection could improve attribution, verification, and monitoring of covert nuclear events.

If successful, the technology could strengthen nuclear security and support treaty enforcement from orbit.
