This New Drone Spins So Fast the Human Eye Can Barely See It

Northwestern researchers unveiled Phantom Twist, a low-visibility drone designed to appear nearly invisible by leveraging human visual perception.

The drone uses AI-guided design and extremely fast counter-rotating components, spinning up to 25 times per second.

It was demonstrated at a robotics conference in Sydney after automated modeling, perception simulation, and physical testing.

The work points to a new stealth approach for UAVs and robotics: designing around how people see, not just around the background.
