OpenAI and 1Password Bring Password Security to Codex

1Password announced a collaboration with OpenAI to let Codex access stored credentials through the 1Password Environments MCP Server in a secure runtime.

The setup is designed to support agentic workflows without exposing passwords, secrets, or other sensitive systems to unnecessary risk.

The companies also highlighted best practices for safely deploying AI agents, including stronger identity controls and secure runtime protections.

Their message is aimed at removing a major barrier to enterprise AI adoption: safe credential access for autonomous agents.
