EU hits Google with another $1B fine as Search and Play Store face fresh antitrust crackdown

The European Commission imposed its first Digital Markets Act fines on Google, totaling €890 million.

Google was fined €460 million over alleged self-preferencing in Search and €430 million over Play Store restrictions on cheaper outside payment options.

The EU also ordered Google to change its Search ranking and Play Store practices within 60 days, or face further penalties.

The ruling could reshape competition in Europe by giving developers and consumers more room to choose cheaper alternatives.
