Government-wide response to voice phishing bears fruit... cases and damage amount fall for 7 straight months

South Korea says voice phishing cases and losses have fallen for seven straight months after a broad government anti-scam push.

The crackdown combines faster phone blocking, AI-based information sharing, stronger telecom defenses, and stepped-up police and prosecutors’ investigations.

Authorities also reported tougher asset seizure and recovery efforts to help return stolen funds to victims.

The government outlined new measures to counter evolving scam tactics, including spam text abuse and other emerging fraud methods.
