FCC: Router ban includes portable hotspots, but not phones with hotspot features

The FCC said its foreign-made router ban also covers consumer portable or mobile Wi‑Fi hotspot devices used at home.

Phones with hotspot features are still excluded from the ban.

Previously approved devices can still be sold, but new covered products will need an exemption to be imported and marketed in the U.S.

The clarification broadens the set of networking gear that may require government approval, affecting hotspot and consumer networking vendors.
